Budget talks erupt in public spatFor several months, members of the Newburgh City Council have argued the need for deep cuts to the city’s 2009 budget. At times, those arguments bordered on public spats.
Monday night, the spats turned to finger-pointing and accusations by the mayor that were labeled “downright lies” by one member of the audience and “unethical and outrageous” Tuesday morning by City Councilwoman Christine Bello. more
Extreme TV comes to HighlandThe cable network DIY brought their ‘Project Extreme’ crew to the Walkway Over the Hudson bridge project last week to see just what all of the fuss is about. The network acronym stands for Do It Yourself and created by the makers of HGTV and the Food Network
The program’s host, Matt Blashaw, originally was to be lowered down from the top of the walkway to a boat waiting for him in the Hudson River. However, due to high winds on the day of the shoot, which would have buffeted Blashaw about mercilessly, the extreme option was jettisoned for the far safer photo-op of the show’s star standing by the concrete slabs being set in place that will become the bridge’s footpath. more
Crawford facing cash shortfallAmong the discussions during last Thursday’s Town of Crawford Board Meeting was the financial situation for the month of December. The town is expected to be approximately $171,000 short.
According to Town Supervisor Carnes, the short fall is due to a combination of mortgage tax being down, revenues being lower than expected, sales taxes not coming in until early 2009, and the town awaiting grant money to come back in. more
